Mee Kong Delta...awesome stay in the jungle

My trip to My Tho was changed from being by car to a bus, i later discovered I had planned a little too much - lol

Got a burger for breakfast...as maccas down the road was the only thing open and i was soon due on a half day bus trip.

Caught bus ... good tour guide on bus, quite informative.

Some changes occurred mid trip re a number of passengers and we were all separated into multiple other buses.
In the quick changeover of buses i lost burger!. I had decided not to do the tunnels, it did not really interest me. However my burger had decided otherwise. In the rush I had left it on the seat beside me and it traveled on to see the tunnels.

I moved on toward the Delta. The bus stopped at a handicapped tile and craft making factory. It seemed to me most if it was made elsewhere as there was a huge shop selling what looked like mass made commercial goods, and only a very small dusty shed where "apparently" they worked making the goods. This spot is at 10.68343,106.56151.

They are assuring some annoyed tourists that we will be in the Delta soon enough. This is an annoying Asian habit, people rearly buy from these places. The bus drivers are the ones making money simply for dropping busloads of tourists at their doorstep. About 40 fare paying tourist then sat on a sweltering hot bus while the driver negotiated his fee.

On the first bus, i met a couple of backpackers who had come down from the north. They told me is was too cold for them up there ... and they were poms !!

I may need to visit a market and pick up warm clothes...i will see how i go. They gave good reports of Hoi An.

When I get the My Tho ill first try and find some accommodation,  then have a walk around for the day.

Hopefully tomorrow ill hire a bike and explore the Delta myself. I hope to get as far as Can Tho.

Soon the view turned to rice paddies an palm trees, now finally it feels like Vietnam.
Got in to My Tho about 11am. My Tho is pronounced Me-though.
At the bus stop i was asked if i wanted to try a homestay, i did, so for 50000 I was taken to my current location.

A very nice homestay in a village. Si I booked for two nights. All meals and trips included.
Mr Thai. I highly recommend this place.

Trust me you have not seen the Mee Kong until you have stayed here and met Mr Thai.

Incredible food. For the purposes of noting it later ... Im at 10.32778,106.38512 as a GPS location.

Amazing host who was in the Vietnam war. He described building traps and pits, and putting snakes in them to trap the enemy.
they used bee hives to drive thd americans toward the traps.

Cobras were actually farmed and used to attack american soldiers as they approached a house,  the snake would stay near ti the home as they were fed food they are addicted too... in a drugged sort of way, Here I met some really nice fellow backpackers, its awesome get their feedback on what to see/avoid heading north...

Lena, Irkutsk Siberia
Sonja, Denmark
Leah, Switzerland

We had an awesome meal and a few beers with Mr Thai sharing stories of our home lands, the Viet war etc etc. Leah and I did a Delta Boat trip, awesome sunsets sunset, mazes of canal ways, a coconut candy factory, and we viewed fireflies. Our guide caught one in a bottle for us to view. Then flash like a white LED.

Bike trip tomorrow is apparently as much as 70kms through the delta. 1,860,000 vnd was total cost. Two nights stay, all meals and tours.
Seriously, if this host is an example of what Vietnam offers..., I am in for an unbelievable treat.
From here I may head to Da Lat based on feedback from the others ... who are travelling in the other direction. Sounds like the weather is wet and cold up north
