Well today Sharon decided to rest up her tired old legs and hang around the hotel pool.
So I thought I would head out to Chatuchuk weekend markets.
I went to see our friendly tuk tuk man but he wasnt there. I decided I would catch a cab.
I waited near a bus stop. I flagged down an old rusty looking taxi. I opened the door and sat in the seat. The old driver did not know a single word of English ... in fact even when I pointed in the direction I wanted to go, he still oozed a large volume of confusion. He then chattered away like a monkey as he pointed at the people waiting at the busp stop.
Equally, I knew nothing of what he said and I shrugged my shoulders.
Then.... the wiry old fellow climbed out over my lap and out the passenger door...it seems his door did not work !
Bizarre?!
He tried his best to use the people at the bus stop to translate. We worked it out in the end and he came back in via the rear door on his side and went in over the centre console.
It was a bit odd , but he was a nice old guy and he tried to teach me some Thai along the way.
When we reached the markets I asked him his age...he replied Bangkok. He then pointed at me and i said Austealia...he looked confused, so i got out my tablet, pulled up Google maps and showed him a map if Aussie. He pointed at himself, then a spot in the middle of the ocean ... I zoomed in but there was no land there. I zoomed futher and still no land...just a blue screen.
He again pointed near the centre of the screen.
...and that folks, is how I decided my cab driver is a fish !
I slipped him an extra 100 bht.
Huge markets. Really enjoyed them. Heading back to the hotel pool :-)
