A group of us decided to detract from the taxi touts and walk the trip.
The walk took us several blocks and then up the western side of Lake Hoam Kiem. Being Saturday there were millions of people about.
The four of us chatted along the way as we risked our lives crossing the roads. It sounds like they are nice people and they have a similar rough plan to me.
ie. Over a week or few days do Ha Long Bay and possibly Sa Pa. It may be fun to hangout the few days and share a few laughs until in backpacker style we go our separate ways.
We walk what feels like 500 KM's finding the optimal accommodation for our Vietnamese Dong. We were seeking one room for me and a single room for the other three (with three beds). All of the hotels said they could accommodate this, but upon checking the three bed room only has a couple of single beds. It was very frustrating. But persistence paid off and we got what we were seeking and we all seem happy. My room came to 300000 vnd a night, which is much more expensive that anything else Ive seen - but it seemed consistent with the other hotels we priced for Hanoi.
Its called the "Cheering Hotel" (a large sign on the door says "Formally the Charming Hotel") lol
Settled in now. Had a quick shower and we all headed out together in search of a dead animal to eat.
We found some nice BBQ street food, before heading through the night market and a bar for a couple of beers.
