Ok I've now booked my trip to the caves 560,000 vnd. That will take me to the DMZ and includes lunch and the caves from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. A long day.
I spent most of today at the imperial city complex. It is fantastic for photography I'm reasonably confident I got some really great shots lots of bright colours and really old mossy yellow walls and things like that. I had a blast.
I probably spent 4 to 5 hours there just taking photos. Hopefully I got some good ones. I took quite a few RAW ones too. Entry cost 20000 vnd for Vietnamese and foreigners enter via the left gate at 105000 vnd. Similar to Bangkoks Grand Palace, the scams are operating in full force outside telling you that it is closed or not open for another hour two. They are easy easily deflected with a very clear "I know you are talking bullshit!"... and just keep walking ... they back off straight away.
After the imperial city I made my way towards the market where I was propositioned by a young man on a pushbike who offered me a blowjob!!! ... it sounded like it was only about $8 too! ... what a bargain ... anyway he hassled the hell out of me and eventually I had to give him the good kiwi f**k off !!
I managed to get a video of it all so that will make some pretty funny watching when I get back. I got to the market and just near the entrance I bought a North Face knapsack bag which only cost probably under $10 ... I haggled the asking price down by half. It seems like a really good bag my other one was a little too small to get my warm jacket and my camera into. I leave early for the caves in the morning but this evening I might go and have a quiet beer across the road and read my Vietnam Rough Guide book and then organise booking a flight to Hanoi for the day after tomorrow. I understand a train trip is something like 14 hours or more from here, and my experience so far is told me that the trains are very uncomfortable for a long trip like that. I'm also informed that domestic travel is very cheap I may be able to get it for as little as 40 or 50 dollars which is nothing really and only about 1 or 2 hours flight.
Hue : Imperial City - definitely wort a couple of hours or more.
