Firstly a rant. Two or three times now I've agreed prior to pay for accomodation, a tour etc by Visa only to find that thier machine doesn't work. I have a cash card to withdraw vnd from an ATM. Each tranaction can cost a few dollars. Which is fine, I simply planned to draw larger sums and have less transactions.
The problem in Vietnam with that, is that at the airport you can take out over 8 million vnd. Every other machine has a very low capped limit of 2 million vnd. I think maybe AU$100 or so. So you seek to preserve your cash. In vietnam cash is king, so they'll do that they can to get it.
In the case of this hotel, I've agreed and told them three times that my laundry and stay will be going on Visa at the end. And they have been ok with that and agreed to it. I come to check out.. and you guessed it they want cash !!
Next was the "machine is broken trick" ... this time I refused to pay cash, I even went to leave ...and amazingly the machine was working a few moments later.
This morning while waiting for my bus I saw scooter being ridden by two people. Its raining lightly. All that us not too odd ... but the people where wearing raincoats made from what appeared to be masking tape and bubblewrap lol
